What Should Be Important to the Covid Couple

Now that we're a full year into dealing with how the pandemic can and will affect weddings and events, we're seeing new priorities rise to the top of wedding planning.  So I've compiled a list of things that couples planning events in 2021 and beyond should start to consider while planning their big day.

Scaled back events can be emotionally hard to deal with. If you're going from 200 people to 25 guests, the wedding is certainly going to look a lot different than you originally imagined. That's why it is more important than ever to truly personalize your day so you have big memories of all the little details.

With fewer guests, you also have the ability to budget differently than you would for larger events. This may mean splurging a little more on items that are per person (food, drinks, invitations, favors) or it might mean adding a live band or photo booth to the festivities.

We've loved seeing the trend of more candles and more flowers with intimate weddings.  This enhances the romance aspect and really makes the smaller ceremonies more intimate.

Even before Covid, not having a videographer was consistently on the top of bride's regret lists. Even more so now that videographers can help loved ones who can't attend the event still experience the big day.

So many of my couples that have eloped in 2020 have been afraid to tell their family about their plans. I think part of it is because elopements have traditionally been considered a selfish thing to do- something you do to purposefully exclude people from your big day. I'm thankful that 2020 has really changed that mindset. My elopement couples’ families have been so supportive and thankful that they are happy and married and did what they needed to do for themselves!

I've also had couples fear that if they elope, the "reception" on a later date won't be as special. Honestly though, it really takes away from the stress and worry about what everyone else is thinking. It certainly doesn't make it less special, but it can make the party much more enjoyable.
